drift-wise, nothing really is happening around here in the bay area really. ddnorcal is still negotiating with golden gate fields to continue dday there ~ so thats a stalemate. ncda kept on pushing on drift nights because altamont's construction is stopped by bad weather these past few weeks. so nor-cal havent seen a drift event for a while. but good news, ncda finally announced its 1st drift night which is on may 18 and there is a new drift league that would pit norcal drifters against socal drifters. california drifting championships is inagurated just today and is a collaboration of justdrift form the south and ncda from the north. final battle will be on nov. 24 at buttonwillow raceway. i think this is a hella cool series. go grassroots norcal drifters! well, as far as my new suspension goes, no problems. i just had to remove the inner liner and pinch the bumper mount near the fender. i still have to tap one tension rod mount becasue i stripped the bolt. also i have yet to go to roger krause for wheel alignment and corner weight. i hope i can be done with that before the 1st night drift.
finally i finished my suspension update. i have been wanting this for the longest time. i have been drifting, autox'ing on my old setup, 6kg front/ 4.3kg rear for maybe about 3 years now. and compared to
my friend stiffer spring rates, mine feels anemic especially on the track. so i ordered all my suspension parts from gabe at t3. i bought front coilover front that includes strut shortening, ground control coilover sleeve with 450 lb (8kg) spring rate, t3 top hat, and t3 nrca. i have bought the trd 6kg rear spring last xmas so im set there. i also have the whiteline swaybar i got from long last xmas and i bought an nrg tension rod brace as well. since im taking out my stock suspension, might as well finish up my busing upgrade by putting the prothane a-arm bushing in. thats a tall order of work! anyways, removing the old suspension is no problem and went all smoothly. i reused all my agx shocks so i had to open up the strut casings. i touch of motor oil is poured inside the struts to have a a quiet operation. for the a-arm i bought a puller from autozone. i can bring back that tool anytime and they will give me full credit. anyways everything went on smoothly until i had to put the rotors back: the outer wheel bearing doesn't fit. i called kuya mark and he told me that there might be a slight difference in the spindle because of coating, re-assemble etc. he suggested to lightly sand the spindle where the bearing sit and sand the inner part of the bearing as well. i did 1 light pass on the spindle and bearing and it already
fitted perfectly. after that another problem surfaced: the collar sleeve for the tein camber plate is too short. the space the stock upper perch isnt there anymore that why there is a play. i asked luis if he can make the collar and make it longer. this set me back a week. besides i was hella tired! after a week i had the longer collar (thanks luis!) and everything went smoothly without any glitches. the whiteline swaybar is pretty close to the t3 nrca. i still has some room though, and it gets better when the car is on the ground. the nrg tension rod brace went it as well as the trd 6kg rear spring. once everything is in, i made my ghetto alignment. i put masking tapes on each front tire to measure camber. i used a measuring tape to level the ride height as well. ride height is about 54.0cm front left and right and about 56.0cm rear left and right if that's worth anything. ill got to roger krause for proper alignment and corner-weight once i have the time. i road tested the car for problems. there were no noise anything from the suspension. first impression of the new suspension is that is more "refined" than my old setup. i dunno, that the word i could think of describing my new suspension. potholes, road cracks, and other road irregularities, the new suspension is about the same as the old ones. i thought i would be worse because of the stiffer rates. but on quick, smooth road attitude changes, you can feel a big difference: the car is stiffer and feels more secure. im so happy with my new suspension! here is a link to more pics of the suspension build

| i finally had a chance to install my obx headers in my car. that headers has been sitting in my closet for the longest time. the build of the header is pretty good; welding is excellent. it has provision for use of top heat shield. for about $200, you cant get wrong, especially if you have been wanting to replace your cracked stock exhaust manifold. installation is pretty straight forward. i didn't have to remove the distributor to put it in. i do have to extend the o2 sensor wire because the o2 flange is way down in the intermediate pipe. i really didn't like that the 02 sensor is in the underside of the body but even trd units have this feature as well. as you can see, i've gone egr'less. the engine bay looks more cleaner, and i do not have to bend back the egr pipe every time i put back the stock exhaust manifold. i found some useful diagram from mr2 forums how to cap off the vacuum lines to remove the egr.

I finally made time and installed my whiteline rear swaybar that i bought from long last dec. first thing
that you notice is that the swaybar uses its own end link bracket. other swaybars still utilize the stock end link bracket. as you can see, you can adjust the swaybar to your heart's content; 4 way adjustable! the end link bracket has 2 mounting points, i think the other point is where you put the endlinks when you set to 3rd or most stiffest setting. i test drove the car and so far, no noise or problems. i havent test its performance though, maybe the next autocross or drift event. i will install the fronts once i get all my parts from gabe for the coilover setup so i can do all the upgrades in one shot.

Wow, its been a long time since the last time i was in buttonwillow. actually, i didnt intend to join this event. but when luis signed up and told me that its gonna be a long time after another private event, i had this urge to go. and i did go! me, luis, and justin caravaned from brentwood. it sucks because forcast for the day of the event was rain. and it did rain. we arrived at motel 6 in lost hills at around 11pm. as usual, most of the drifters rented out the room there. marc got his keys locked up in his car. good thing some friendly mexicans helped him out. slonie has a big problem: his fornt brake caliper sheared off while he was driving at I-5. good thing gabe and t3 stoped by to help him out. later that day, he got an extra caliper when johnny brought and extra at the track.

Feb. 19, 2006 - scca round 2. i didn't really plan to run autocross this weekend. but when my friend yap asked me if i wanted to drive his wrx, it's hard to resist. kuya mark was out of town, so it was just me and yap that run autocross. well, of course cliff fong is always given that he is there. yap reminded me about the car's tendency to understeer and keep the turbo spooling. anyways, my 1st run; of the starting line im already understeering! i cannot keep the car in the right line and i kept bogging down because im below boost rpm. 2nd and 3rd runs were a little better but not much. i guess im try to move the car and think it was as nimble as mark's civic or my 86. i believe the wrx tips the scale at around 3000 lbs. wereas the civic is around 2200 lbs and the 86 is around 2400. thats a significant amount of weight. but it has that addicting pull once boost starts though, very nice. maybe if i have more seat time with the subie, i could get faster with it. what a season, maybe two? round 2
Autometer oil press & water temp gauges. finally i was able to install the remaining gauges clarice gave me. kuya mark bartered me his water temp gauge for some extra stuff i have. well it did not have any temp sensor so i went and bought one at vic hubbard for about $14. i realized then that both sensors for both gauges wouldnt work. so i went to royal brass in san jose to buy a 1/8NPT - 1/8BSPT adapter for the oil press. for the water temp, i went to vic hubbard also and bought the 1/8NPT - M14x1.5 adapter as well. everything went smoothly. i just forgot to put the darn crush sleev on the water sender adapter. oh well, it seems that there are no leaks so hopefully i will be fine. my gauges are now complete. i posted a write-up on club4ag and hachiroku.net

First round of the scca is here again. Good thing kuya mark was able to smog his civic in order to run this event. our frind vj aslo tried to autocross for the first time using his eclipse. it was frustrating in the morning becasue they were using this new computer-based registration. there were long lines and i was even working the 1st group. hopefully, the succeeding round will be faster. there were a lot of people! well the first round of the championship series is always packed from past experiences. sts group large too. anyways, we were in the two driver lane so wait time isnt as bad. on my first run, i already did good! i hit a 45ish sec. run. i was surprised becasue i usually cannot keep up with kuya mark but this time im up to pace. secound run, i hit a 44 sec. run. nice! finally after these years, im learning how to drive the civic fast. my 3rd run was my best run, clinching a low 45 sec. time. but as you know that sts is ulta-competetive class, with peter thana, cliff fong, and mark lin leading the pack. my time was good for a 10th place for that day; kuya mark was 9th. vj did well for his first autox run. his time was faster than the previous. hopefully he can go out when the next event comes. alas, i was really happy with my driving. civic is a fun car to drive; simple point and shoot you cannot go wrong. if you keep tabs with the raction limit of the azenis and keep your lines tight, it is fast. now i want to campaign my corolla too!!! i wanna nab a novice trophy but i do not have time to commit for a whole season. round 1
| i havent been to this track for like 2 years now. its nice to be back. it was so freakin' cold! and it was windy. it didnt help too that i am nursing a cold. anyways, kyua mark and donna were there to watch | |||||||||||||||
