| i give mad props to my friend john. we were suppose to caravan from the bay area the night after but he was tied up at work so he said he will follow. 4:30 in the mourning i got a call from john: "hey paul what room number are you in?" WOW! he made it! even though he only got few hours of sleep, he was able to wake up that morning. we arrived at the track but i was wondering why there are few cars. some people didnt come so we have an open track from the beginning. | |||||||||
i finally got together and went ahead and installed my Goodridge steel braided brake lines. i bought a set of extended length wrenches as well as flared wrenches from harbor freight to carry on w/ my brake project. it was cheap, 20 bucks for the set of metric wrenches (from 10mm to 23 mm!) and 7 bucks for the flared wrench. the installation went ok until i got to the 5th member of the brale line. the center diff. was hitting the flared wrench so i cannot remove it. i only had an extended reg. 17mm so that would help also. so i just left the 5th member and installed the other 4 lines.
mind you there are no pics because some freakin' theif stole my camera at the sjsu library! not only that but the theif stole my graphing calculator too! soo a warning to sjsu stidents: dont leave you stuff unattended, even if you only going to take a leak.
ahh, i im back at buttonwillow again! i haven't seen this track for some time now. what a great event! i had learned so much in this one. kuya mark also participated in his white 89 civic si. he also had a great time riding with me. it is my first time to use the clutch technique since i just installed a brand new clutch kit. in my opinion, the clutch technique is a very brute way to incude a drift. i still have to learn where to place the throttle just before i pop the clutch. my used michellin touring tires are just junk! no feedback while at drift whatsoever. those tires is just so unpredictable at high angles of drift. it even peeled like a bananna when i went to check the condition of the tires. when i changed to the used firestone high performance-all season tires, it felt better. i had some feedback and the tires were somewhat predictable during drifts. we ran the west loop of the track which is my first time in this segment of the racetrack. the zorro corners, in my opinion, taught me the right "lines" to take. i constantly drop one of the rear tires on the dirt becasue of poor racing lines. the corners are tight, it either drift slow or drift and take the right line. during mid-day, people are starting to get crazy. people are staring to drift the lost corner which is a hill that is slighlty off cambered. i did drift this hill a couple of times and its just fun! (and crazy) then after a while i practiced drifting the star mazda turn. i am just really happy when i started to complete the whole turn. i used sheer speed to complete my drift, entering the corner at about 60~65mph. what a blast! and oh yeah, i got yuki a new, less dented hood. color is silver and is way better than my original dented hood. the color difference between the hood and the rest of the car isn't that all too bad. i think it looks nice.

me and kuya mark finall had the time to replace the old, slipping clutch and pressure plate of yuki. i bought a spare oem flywheel from jeff r from the club4ag forums. this way, i could resurface my extra flywheel and not have a down time when working on the clutch. the new cltuch kit is an exedy usa unit. no 3-puck clutch or high pressure plate here, just good 'ol oem replacement. we had no problems with the install until we were about to replace the hub release bearing. it was press fit and we didnt know any shop that would press out the old bearing. all we could think of is go to red star racing and ask tito solis if he could help us. when we came to tito solis' shop, it was packed with old school toyotas as well as new hondas. he told us that we dont need no hydraulic press. he just set the hub in a vise, one good hammer blow, and the bearing was off. he also put in the new bearing for us. thank you so much tito for helping us and goodluck with your '04 scca campaign.
Feb. 28, 2004 - D1 GP Rd. 1. man what an awesome experience! i had a great time in this d1 event. i was able to have ueo's autograph in a picture of yuki doing autox. i also had the autograph of imamura, asamoto, tanaka, tarzan yamada, itsumi, and many more d1 drivers. i could just cannot believe how fast pro level drifting is! they probably start out to drift in the banked turn at ~80mph, 120kmh!!! i give big props to us drivers for giving a great performance. it just shows that the us drivers are developing skills quickly. i have heard that ueo was having some problems with his ae86. he wasn't able to qualify for the best 16. alas, i was happy to see the other d1 drivers that i admire in the best 16: gerasaki, suenaga, and yoshiyoka. kazama was just doing very good that day. i still cannot believe in my own eyes that he drifted the whole freaking track! and it was a very tough battle between tanuguchi and kazama in the finals. i am very happy for kazama for winning the 1st rd. of d1gp '04, im sure irwindale speedway will have a special place in his heart. they have also announced that option will try to have d1 series here in the us at least once a year, yehey!

| bondoggle IV! again, a fresh new season for scca sfr region. its nice to see yeat again familliar faces and cars in the paddok. the track eye-catcher in my opinion is the yellow lotus ellese that was trailered to the course. all of my autox friends (yap, kuya mark, chap) did fairly well. chap's chalk mark's in the tires help s an indicator whether the tires are over or underinflated. i picked up a habit from kuya mark too; he lists all the tire pressures he had run so that he can gather enough info in which set-up is the best/worst. i had 40/40 psi - track is dusty and little dampped - i felt that the tires does not respond well to my quick inputs. maybe ill try a lower psi setting later. round 1

ahh! my magnaflow exhaust is finally installed! but not without a hitch. Randy, my trusted exhaust guy from Fremont, CA, called in sick for 2 days. i can't wait further and went to a muffler shop in Hayward. the muffler was too loud! plus i think it hits my rear axle. when i heard of news
that Randy was already in the muffler shop i let him look at the exhaust system. "man, this guy cant weld!" he said. i finally ended up using 2" piping plus resonator. it muffled the sound quite a bit but still loud for my taste. sound good though, very solid deep tone. so bay area peeps, if you have any muffler needed to be installed, i highly suggest the muffler shop beside 510 motorsports in fremont. the guy at 510 is cool too, showing me all his wild datsun collection.

i fainally had the time to mess around with my car. i have always said to myself that i will remove my ac someday. and i finally started on it today. my ac isn't working in the first place. i have no idea wether R12 is still in the ac lines. upon further inspection, i saw one of the hose fittings disconnected! well, that's one less trip to the ac service shop. my engine bay now looks less cluttered. see, no reciver or condenser! only the oil cooler and radiator. on the left is the stuff i yanked out of my car. and on the right, no more ac line near the thorttle body. i'm still not finished though, i still have to remove the compressor and the cooling unit.
merry christmas to all! slowly but surely, i have started on my threefold project for yuki during the holidays; maintenance, power-up, and footwork. i ordered from gabrial from techno toy tuning a front strut bar and in a couple of days, its already at my doorstep! this is a fairly easy strut bar to insall. once the bar is secured to the two strut towers, adjust the whole rod for zero slop. initial observation showes that the car gained significant rigidity. ride is harsher, more bumpier on the pothoiles and such. steering gained some stesetivity, as bump steers are more pronounced. gotta get my butt working on those RCA's, its collecting dust in my closet. i hope i could complete my project for yuki berfore the NCDA drift event on jan. 17.
